TOURISM ACTION PLAN

Screen Shot 2018-03-28 at 2.23.56 PMLast week’s announcement by the McGowan Government of a new two year action plan for tourism growth is welcome news for Western Australia’s hotel and hospitality industry.

Australian Hotels Association (WA) CEO Bradley Woods said the establishment of a clear blueprint for visitor growth was important and is backed by industry, in order to turn around WA’s performance in attracting travellers to the State.

“The action plan clearly outlines a number of practical ways that more visitors can be attracted to WA as well as how that travel can be facilitated, which is exactly what hotel and hospitality operators have been asking for,” Mr Woods said.

“Western Australia has so much to offer visitors but we are living in an increasingly competitive global environment, making it more necessary than ever to self-promote and campaign in order to lure domestic and international travellers to our shores.”

The AHA (WA) has long advocated for a number of elements that are contained in the action plan, such as the need to place greater emphasis on event marketing, pursuing more direct flights into Perth and making a substantial effort to market Perth to domestic audiences.

“We welcome the fact that Minister Papalia and the WA Government are focusing their efforts on supporting and growing the tourism industry and we look forward to the state’s investment generating results.”
