Aromatherapy is a beautiful healing art which is set to garner even more attention with the arrival in Perth of Melbourne’s Health Arts College, a very media – and social media – savvy company which doesn’t believe in promoting natural therapies under the mainstream radar.
Recently the principal of the college, Brian Knight, and his partner Claire, visited Perth to have a stall at the Conscious Living Expo and while there, secured teaching space at Murdoch University to launch their courses in aromatherapy, kinesiology and remedial massage.
While Perth has always had a strong spiritual and healing arts community, after all it was where Nova Magazine began before it became a national publication, in recent times the natural therapy community has been struggling for recognition as Perth has become dominated by a mining industry mindset, turning into a two-tiered economy – with the miners and their associates living the good life while more worthy pursuits such as the health industry suffer from insufficient demand.
“We’ll hopefully bring a more interstate and even international mindset to the Perth healing industry,” Brian declares confidently.
“I appreciate people feeling cut off and if they’re struggling to make a living from being a natural therapist or aromatherapist, I want them to know that there is hope – our students end up travelling the world and find employment plentiful on the Eastern Seaboard of Australia too.
They also offer training in kinesiology and remedial massage, while if you’re interested in moving to Melbourne to study, their head campus offers reflexology and beauty therapy diplomas as well as shorter courses in yoga, tai chi, Reiki and many other modalities.
“Our diplomas are designed like weekend workshops,” Brian says. “So you can still work full-time while getting your qualifications as an aromatherapist during weekend intensives.”
