The Wine Show Gala night also saw the announcement of the annual Viticulture Excellence Award which was won by John Fogarty of Deep Woods Estate.  The Vinicultural Excellence Award Judges said, “all three finalists this year were very, very strong applicants and it was a difficult award to judge.  John Fogarty demonstrated innovative practices to restore neglected vineyards back to award winning quality across vast and diverse climates”.

Chair of Judges, Corrina Wright from Oliver’s Taranga said “This year’s judging team were again very impressed at the depth of quality at the show, particularly with the varieties that spearhead the region – Chardonnay and Cabernet Sauvignon. The 80 gold medals attest to a region that is batting well above its size on the national scene. Not to be forgotten, a strong showing of silver and bronze medals, all wines that are exemplary examples of their variety and style. Sauvignon Blanc & Semillon continue to impress, and the rise and rise of delicious dry Rose from the region only seems to gather more momentum.”

Wine Show Chairman Cliff Royle said, “Corrina Wright and the wine show committee did a wonderful job in bringing together a fantastic group of judges this year. Judges from all over the country were complemented with two local judges and one international judge from China. Our Chief Steward Trent Kelly did a super job and the back of house was run like clockwork, thank you to all those people who gave up their time to help over the past week. Margaret River has had a golden run with wine shows results this year, winning the trophy for the best Chardonnay of show at every capital city show. The Chardonnay classes were once again hotly contested with a range of styles being picked out by the judges, these wines would hold their own anywhere in the world. Thanks also to the support of our sponsors and event partners, without your assistance we simple couldn’t run the Margaret River Wine Show, we look forward to a long association in partnership with each one of you”.

Naming Rights Partner, Langton’s Clayton Buffoni said “In line with the wines of the region, the show continues to grow into one of the most exciting events in the country. Additional trophy classes along with the recent sponsorship by Singapore Airlines of the International Judges Trophy are lending this regional show a true international weight. This has been our third year as sponsor of the event and we look forward to continuing the journey. It’s been quite a ride.”

Corrina Wright led the team of 21 judges and associate judges for the second year.

Beijing wine educator, Fongyee Walker MW joined as this year’s International Judge, supported by Singapore Airlines, to provide an important international perspective to the show.
